A reason for things…

I’ve had a hard time writing lately because I don’t want to write what I read, I want to write for the goodness of God’s Kingdom but I didn’t want to be preachy in my fiction because I don’t like to read preachy fiction. My son told me “Just because you’re not writing about God doesn’t mean you’re not writing for God.” Who’d have thought he’d be so insightful at age 11?

So I have been struggling with it a lot lately and yesterday at church, Ron Harrison (our guest preacher) had quite the sermon. I usually don’t care for his sermons, but this one was excellent. It was about the many plans God has for our lives, and when it comes down to it, we simply can’t ignore the Goliath’s in our lives. How do you know if you’re facing a Goliath? If you wake up thinking about it, and go to sleep thinking about it, You need to deal with it. I think that God told him to preach this sermon simply because I needed to hear it. I loved it and I came to one conclusion…

It’s time to write the fiction I want to read for my Lord and Saviour.

Ban on Spending Challenge

J Kaye started a challenge. I heard about this from Sarai, and as I glanced over to the pile of books I’ve acquired just in the last month, I decided that it’d be a good idea if I went ahead and did this challenge. Here are the Rules as posted on J Kaye’s blog:

1. No purchasing books for yourself until all the books listed are gone. No purchasing books for other people with the intention of reading them after they are finished. Library or other borrowed books can’t be listed.

2. Any books won in a raffle or given to me as a gift will be added to this list.

3. Books to be reviewed for promo companies, other blogs, authors, etc. do not count and are not added to this list.

4. Start anytime and list as many or as few books as needed. Once all books are checked off from the list, the ban is lifted and the spending can begin again.

5. The ending date for each person can vary to a few weeks or months as long as it doesn’t exceed December 31, 2008. This ban can be lifted earlier if all books listed have been read or donated.

Books I’m posting for the challenge:

  1. The rest falls away by Colleen Gleason
  2. After the kiss by Suzanne Enoch
  3. Heart of the Sea by Nora Roberts
  4. Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella
  5. Rises the Night by Colleen Gleason
  6. Midnight Rising by Lara Adrian
  7. Not another bad date by Rachel Gibson
  8. Virgin River by Robyn Carr
  9. The Great Scott by Donna Kauffman
  10. The King of Lies by John Hart

I will have these read by December 31st. I will review them over on Reading Romance Books and if I do not read them I will give them away and throw in an alternate.

I’m so excited! TrueBlood!

RRB Book Club

The girls over at RRB have decided, with reader input, to start the book club off with Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It is NOT a romance, though there is romance in it. The series has a huge fan base everywhere so if you want to join in, and we hope you do, see this post for information on what we’re doing, how we’re doing it and where you can get the book. The more the merrier! Reading starts Aug. 25th and goes through September.

I’m still here!

It probably seems like I’ve been MIA for a while, but really, I haven’t been. My time has been spent largely at RRB because doing it on my own takes a lot of effort. I’m not complaining, though. I’ve gotten some MAD feedback and I’ve gotten notes from authors who are interested in contributing a lil somethin’ here and there. So, that’s a really good thing.

I also have been working really hard on the church website, which I am happy to say that I finished yesterday. It won’t be up for at least another week, probably two, but the work is done and now all I have to do is wait on the head of the christian school to email me some confirmations so that I can get started on that one as well. They’re takin’ their sweet time though and that bothers me. Oh well, the longer they take the longer I’ll be to get them a finished product.

Aside that, I’ve been reading up a storm. I reviewed Breaking Dawn on RRB and I’m getting ready to push into another book, and I’m pretty sure I know what it is, but I am not sure. I’ll decide for sure tomorrow morning. So, my posting is going to be sparse here until I get some permanent help over at the review site. I don’t mind it, after all, as long as you dont mind hearin’ from me over here lol.

The Two Coreys–Concluded?

The Two Coreys, I think, made its final episode tonight. I watched this, and I forgot to mention the other week that when Haim did his Q&A with the children, I thought it was great. I think we saw a side of him that we don’t always get to see. He was great with them and he felt good about himself afterwards. It was really good.

Now, onto this latest episode. Feldman ambushed Haim. I don’t care what they say, but -if- in fact, he asked to think about it, then Feldman shouldn’t have done this. One thing that didn’t make sense:

If Haim knew nothing about it, how did he drop by to say he was going to go to dinner that night? They call each other for everything else, so isn’t it just funny how he dropped in on this little get together? Regardless, I can see how he would feel ganged up on, and I probably would have felt the same way. So, I think that the show’s over, but I kind of hope that it isn’t.

I found myself thinking that Haim looked a lot better in this episode. He didn’t look quite so tired like he’s looked in the last few. I truly do hope that the man can find himself a spot of happiness. He seems so solitary. Feldman has his wife, but we always see Haim by himself. I don’t like that at all. Makes me want to just hug him and tell him it’ll be alright. Maybe I should do that lol..

Corey, come here so I can hug you and tell you it’ll be alright.

On another thought, I watched Lost Boys 2: The Tribe. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. And I have to say that the ending was A COMPLETE SURPRISE. Edgar Frogg and Sam’s meetup (remember them from the first one? aka haim and feldman) was PHENOM! Kinda left a little hanger there too. It’s worth at least a watch or two. And Angus Sutherland is sexy as hell.
